Liam McCarthy Cup

The Limerick players brought the Liam McCarthy cup to Martinstown NS. The Limerick team won this cup in the All Ireland senior hurling final in Croke Park on August 19th. We made a guard of honour for Shane Dowling and Oisín O Reilly to welcome them to our school. We cheered for the players and sang ‘Limerick You’re a Lady’ and ‘Dreams’. Mr Fitzgerald welcomed the players, parents, grandparents and local people to the school for this special occasion. There was a great atmosphere and we all wore green and white. Everybody had a chance to have their photograph taken with the cup and the players. We got autographs and had jerseys, hurleys, helmets, sliotars and posters signed. The school was decorated with bunting, flags and art work. We were delighted when the players gave us a night off homework. It was a cold, blustery morning but we didn’t mind because we had great fun. It was the best day ever in school this year. By First & Second Class
